Yet, as Donny shared with us, it’s his real family that keeps him grounded. And yes—he still does the household chores.
“You’re woven into the fabric of this community,” we told him.
He nodded. “Absolutely. And this community has been through so much. I’ve watched this town weather highs and lows—just like my own career. I even remember when Las Vegas felt like a ghost town for entertainers.”
Today, though, Las Vegas is stronger than ever.
“What’s incredible about Vegas right now,” Donny said, “is that it’s better than it’s ever been.”
And he’s loving every moment of it. For Donny, Las Vegas represents the pinnacle of show business.
“When you ask about the significance of Las Vegas… it’s the crème de la crème of entertainment. My wife and I truly love being Nevadans.”
After more than 60 years in the spotlight, the iconic performer is still going full speed. His solo show continues to earn rave reviews and rack up accolades, but Donny insists his greatest foundation is—and always will be—family.
“When I go home, I take out the garbage, mow the lawn—normal things like that,” he said with a laugh.
Married for 44 years, he recalls the moment he realized Debbie was the one. At the time, he was dating a girl named Tammy, and Debbie was dating his brother Jay. The four went to see Elton John in concert.
“When Elton sat down and began singing Your Song, I remember glancing over at my brother’s date and thinking, ‘I’m going to marry that girl someday.’”
Two weeks later, the brothers switched dates—and Donny and Debbie have been inseparable ever since.
For him, balance is everything—especially as their family continues to grow.
“We just welcomed our 13th grandbaby, so life is pretty amazing. And I don’t want to lose any of that.”
With a thriving show, a close-knit family, and a home in Summerlin, Donny seems to have found the perfect harmony. And Las Vegas is proud to call him one of its own.
