Introduction:
Tom Jones epitomized the “sex bomb” persona both on and off the stage, famously engaging in numerous affairs during the peak of his stardom. Rising to fame in the mid-1960s with a series of top ten hits, the charismatic Welsh singer captivated audiences around the world. Despite his enduring marriage to his wife Linda—whom he remained devoted to throughout their nearly 60-year union until her passing in 2016—Jones also gained notoriety for his many romantic encounters over the years.
The Welsh singer spoke of his wife with deep admiration, calling her an “extraordinary woman” and affirming that she was the true love of his life.
Although Sir Tom often professed that Lady Linda was the only woman he truly loved, he reportedly had intimate encounters with as many as 250 women a year during the height of his fame.
In a 2015 interview with The Big Issue, Sir Tom addressed the long-standing rumors, saying:
“That’s been discussed endlessly.
But that’s not the core of who I am — it’s not what truly drives me.”
“‘It’s Not Unusual’ became a hit before anyone even knew what I looked like — it was all about the power of the voice,” Sir Tom reflected.
“The media always focus on the women — asking how it affected my wife. But it’s not just me; they do it with every public figure. Sex is always brought into the conversation.”
“Of course, it’s a part of life — without it, we wouldn’t exist. But the real question is: what sets you apart? What makes you unique?”
“I have no regrets,” Sir Tom affirmed. “Through everything, my marriage remained strong, and my son continues to love me. I’ve never done anything truly wrong in my life.”
Over the years, his affairs included high-profile names such as former Miss World Marjorie Wallace, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, and model Katherine Berkery — with whom he fathered a son named Jonathan.
In a candid 2015 interview with The Sunday Times, Sir Tom recalled a moment of reckoning when his wife Linda confronted him after learning of his relationship with Marjorie Wallace.
“She hit me,” he admitted. “I stood there and took it. She punched me and shouted — and I deserved it.”
“She’s the most important person in my life — an extraordinary woman,” Sir Tom said with heartfelt sincerity.
“Linda has always been the love of my life, and she still is — even though time has changed how she looks.”
He added with humility, “I don’t look the same either, but I do my best.”
